sap idt

how to do modeling with sap idt:

tools to achieve modeling in sap bo 4.0 is

1. SAP IDT: information design tool
2.SAP UDT: universal design tool

SAP IDT: new version--> new generation modeling tools which supports two major changes than older version

--> advansed sap integration (for sap data)
--->build universes on multiple connections(non sap only)

working with SAP IDT:

programs-->sap bi-->sap bi plotform-->client tools--> IDT

this is window based application to perform data modeling

window based means  100% installation in our local system
web based means     0% installation but server based program execution ( ex: accessing gmail)

note: if source data in not modeled data ie data is coming from non sap systems ie non biw systems then we need to model the data for this we need local memory and resources. so use local projects for this type of data.

if source data is sap biw then data is already modeled in sap system and no need to do any modeling part. so create connections directly in repository/BO server system.

defining OLAP Connections in SAP IDT
--> select repository resources in SAP IDT
-->create a new session (to come with SAP BO Server)
--->define new OLAP Connection
--->select BIW system
--->SAP BICS Connection
--> submit login details
user name
password
client
access ur connection from SAP BO Web based tool using below url ie SAP BI Launchpad
http:// local host;8080/BOE/BI
select web application from home page once loaded select new document
select bex as source
select our defined connections from list of SAP BO connections select objects and drag and drop the data save your project.
